Abstract

Aslen Amerikalı bir avukat olan Wendell Lewis Willkie (1892-1944), 5 Kasım 1940 tarihinde ABD’de yapılan başkanlık seçimlerinde Cumhuriyetçi Partinin adayı olarak Franklin D. Roosevelt’e karşı yürüttüğü başkanlık yarışını kaybedince Orta Doğu ülkeleri, Türkiye, Rusya, Yakut Cumhuriyeti ve Çin’e 49 günlük bir seyahat gerçekleştirir. Bu seyahatlerde yapmış olduğu gözlemleri ‘‘Tek Dünya’’ adıyla kitaplaştırır. Wendell Willkie gezi notları mahiyetinde kaleme almış olduğu Tek Dünya adlı kitapta, ziyaret ettiği ülkelerdeki gözlemlerini aktarmaktadır. II. Dünya Savaşının seyri ve bu yıllarda ABD’nin müttefiklerinin siyasi, sosyal, askeri ve ekonomik durumları hakkında çarpıcı bilgilere yer veren Willkie bir nevi kitapta, 1940’lı yıllarda ana hatları ile dünya durumunu değerlendirerek dönemin tahlilini yapmaktadır. Yaptığı tahliller genellikle ziyaret ettiği halkların askeri ve iktisadi durumları, yaşayışları, dünya görüşleri ve eğitimde kat ettikleri mesafeyi içermektedir.
