Conmemoración escultórica de la batalla de Ayacucho. Propuestas incumplidas y desidia estatal peruana (1824-1974)

Abstract

Con la batalla de Ayacucho de 1824 se selló la independencia suramericana en la sierra sur del Perú. Para perennizarla Simón Bolívar propuso, ese año, erigir un monumento en el escenario del enfrentamiento, la pampa de la Quinua (3600 msnm). Luego de 150 años de promesas incumplidas el Estado peruano logró inaugurarlo en 1974. En ese lapso, gracias a la iniciativa local, se erigieron dos “modestos” monumentos en Ayacucho (1852 y 1897), los cuales a duras penas duraron poco tiempo. En este texto analizamos los proyectos escultóricos del gobierno central y regional gestados durante el primer sesquicentenario de vida republicana, caracterizado por una inestabilidad gubernativa, corrupción estatal, centralización de poderes en Lima y desidia hacia la sierra peruana, que influenciaron en las propuestas limeñas escultóricas para erigir un monumento en Ayacucho y que, al mismo tiempo, afectaron a los dos monumentos ayacuchanos decimonónicos.
