Some reflections around G. Agamben’s thought

Abstract

Abstract This article approaches Giorgio Agamben’s thought taking as a central axis the reflections of the Italian philosopher about the political. In the first place, we reconstruct Agamben’s main arguments regarding the functioning of the sovereign power. Next, we examine some of the subjective figures proposed by the author to restrain the tanatopolitical machinery that he identifies with the sovereign power; among them we will pay special attention to the figure of Bartleby. Thirdly, we will provide an approximation to the political based on the notion of ‘potential’ and its relations with the idea of inoperosity. Following the theses of Galindo Hervas, we will indicate why Agamben can be characterized as an impolitical thinker, to finish with a critical appraisal of his position.
