OPTIMASI SEDIAAN GEL EKSTRAK RAMBUT JAGUNG (Zea mays L.) MENGGUNAKAN GELLING AGENT CARBOPOL DAN HUMEKTAN PROPILEN GLIKOL

Abstract

Ekstrak rambut jagung (Zea mays L.) sebelumnya telah dilaporkan mempunyai kemampuan antioksidan yang baik. Ekstrak ini berpotensi untuk dijadikan sebagai komponen bahan aktif dalam pengembangan sediaan topikal seperti gel. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memformulasi ekstrak rambut jagung menjadi sediaan gel menggunakan carbopol sebagai gelling agent dan propilen glikol sebagai humektan dengan perbandingan yang optimum. Optimasi kedua komponen gel tersebut dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode D-optimal design. Respon sifat gel yang digunakan sebagai parameter optimasi adalah viskositas, daya sebar, daya lekat, dan pH. Uji aktivitas antioksidan kemudian dilakukan terhadap formula gel optimum. Formula dibuat dengan mencampurkan carbopol dan propilen glikol dengan perbandingan sesuai rancangan D-optimal yang telah ditentukan menggunakan software Design Expert (Stat-Ease, Inc.) versi 13, metil paraben, bersama dengan bahan-bahan lain, yaitu TEA, ekstrak rambut jagung, dan akuades dengan porsi yang sama pada semua formula. Percobaan menunjukkan hasil formula optimum gel dengan carbopol 0,75% dan propilen glikol 14,25%, dengan respon prediksi untuk sifat viskositas, daya sebar, daya lekat, dan pH masing-masing berturut-turut adalah 3.197,37 cP.s; 7,09 cm; 2,83 detik dan 5,00. Verifikasi dengan mengukur respon sediaan yang dibuat berdasarkan formula prediksi memberikan hasil respon verifikasi untuk sifat-sifat tersebut sebesar 3,190 ± 39,463 cps; 7,2 ± 0,1 cm; 2,86 ± 0,14 detik; 4,99 ± 0,03. Nilai-nilai respon verifikasi tersebut berada dalam rentang 95% PI yang berarti respon prediksi terverifikasi dengan baik. Nilai IC50 dari formula optimal gel ekstrak rambut jagung tergolong lemah dengan nilai 126,37 g/mL.
