ROLE OF FAMILY RELATIONS IN THE FORMATION OF DENTAL HEALTH AMONG TEENAGERS

Abstract

The article discusses the results of the study of the correlation between the level of dental literacy of parents and family relationships, and their influence on the dental health of adolescents aged 14-16. The authors rely on the bio-psychosocial model of the disease, where parental relationships are regarded as a social and psychological factor that can determine the intensity of caries and the unsatisfactory level of oral health. Within the framework of the study, we tested a dental literacy questionnaire developed by the authors. It was revealed that children with a low level of dental literacy typically have authoritarian parents, who are less likely to encourage their independence or support them, are more demanding, and have a less adequate image of a child. Therefore, children that belong to this category are less content with their relationships with their parents.
