Since the appearance of the last "Archaeological News from Cyprus 1977-78," AJA 84 (1980) 63-73, compiled five years ago by the late Kyriakos Nicolaou, there have been several major developments in the prehistoric archaeology of the island, the most important being an increasingly anthropological and scientific approach. This review extends through the Late Bronze Age which, stricto sensu, does not belong here, as writing was then in common usage. The CyproMinoan script, however, still eludes decipherment, so the inclusion of this important period seems warranted, especially since, being the focus of five major excavations, it remains at the forefront of archaeological research.
