Novelties in Borreria (Rubiaceae-Spermacoceae) from Brazil

Abstract

sect. Pseudodiodia. Section Borreria is the largest, and is comprised of two subsections with series (Bacigalupo & Cabral 1996). According to Schumann (1888) and Andersson (1992), some species of Borreria are widespread in the New World and adventive elsewhere, but many are restricted to Brazil where the subgenus Borreria is represented by approximately 60 species. Four new species and one new subspecies from Brazil are described here: B. amapaensis and B. multibracteata belong to the subgenus Borreria, section Borreria, series Borreria. Borreria guimaraesensis belongs to series Brachystemonoides. Borreria capitata subsp. restingicola belongs to series Laeves. Borreria tocanlinsiana belongs to section Pseudodiodia.
