Dioscoreaceae of South-Central Africa

Abstract

Summary. The species of Dioscoreaceae known from Namibia (Caprivi Strip), Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Malawi and Mozambique (the Flora Zambesiaca area) are listed and described, with full regional synonymy. Keys are provided to facilitate the identification of male, female (fruiting) and sterile material. Notes on nomenclature, ecology and uses are also provided. One new combination is made, D. preussii Pax subsp. hylophila (Harms) Wilkin, and D. preussii subsp. preussii is recorded for the first time from South-Central Africa in Mozambique.
