Approaching German Culture: A Tentative Analysis

Abstract

USA-Wissenschaftler aus der BRD und der DDR "an einen Tisch;" sie fand am 24. und 25. Marz 1972 auf Anregung des "Institute of German Studies" an der Indiana University in Bloomington statt. 3 Am "Institute of German Studies," das seitdem aus Mitteln der Stiftung Volkswagenwerk gef6rdert wird, werden u.a. folgende Publikationen vorbereitet: eine zweibindige Erstausgabe der pers6nlichen Dokumente Lucius D. Clays (Herausgeber. Jean Edward Smith), die vor allem die Jahre 1945-1948, die Rolle der amerikanischen Militirregierung in Deutschland und die Anfinge der BRD in neuer Sicht erscheinen lassen; eine Monographie ijber das Nationalkomitee "Freies Deutschland" und den Einflug dieser Gruppe bis zur GrOndung der DDR (Kai P. Schoenhals). Augerdem konnte eine Studie iber den Marshall-Plan gef6rdert werden (John Gimbel). Ein umfanglicher Bibliothekskatalog zur BRDund DDR-Forschung wurde bereits veriffentlicht: A Bibliography of German Studies, 1945-1971: Germany under Allied Occupation; Federal Republic of Germany; German Democratic Republic (Bloomington, 1972).
