HIS FIRST annual listing of Doctoral Dissertations in Music and Music Education is meant to supplement the monograph which appeared as the Spring issue of the JRME in 1964 and included studies made during the years 1957-1963. The reader is referred to the foreword of that monograph for information on earlier MENC bibliographies and the bibliographical studies of the American Musicological Society. The bulk of the dissertations in this alphabetical listing are for the years 1963-1964. An attempt has been made to include as many titles of dissertations offered for degrees in 1964 as were available at press time. It is regretted that complete information was not always available on all of the titles. Whenever possible, information is given in the following order: author's name; title of dissertation; number of pages; degree earned; area (school or department of study); institution conferring degree; date degree was awarded; Library of Congress number; abstract publication volume, number, and page. Titles that have inadvertently been omitted will be included in next year's listing.
