AbstractQuintic designs, a class of PBIB designs having five associate classes, are defined. Properties of NN', where N is the incidence matrix, are examined to present necessary conditions for the existence of quintic designs. The variances of elementary treatment comparisons are found. The block structure of two types of quintic design is studied.
