Arachniopsis major Herz., Barbella enervis (Thwait, & Mitt.) Fleisch. ex Broth., Breutelia arundinifolia (Dub.) Fleisch., Chaetomitriopsis glau- cocarpa (Reinw.) Fleisch., Fissidens subangustus Fleisch., Macrothamnium ma- crocarpum (Reinw. & Hornsch.) Fleisch., Trachypus humilis Lindb. var. humilis, and Zoopsis liukiuensis Horik. are reported for the first time from Malaya. The bryoflora of Malaya is still to a great extent unknown despite over a century and a half of investigation. As a result of continued field and herbarium work (KLU & SING), I have found several interesting distribution records. Six genera (Arachniopsis, Barbella, Breutelia, Chaetomitriopsis, Macrothamnium, Trachypus, & Zoopsis) and one species (Fissidens subangustus Fleisch.) are herein reported for the first time from Malaya. Only a single species, Arachniopsis major Herz. is endemic to Malesia; the rest are widely distributed in Asia and the Pacific. All seven species are, however, from the mon- tane forest (lower montane forest 750-1500 m, upper montane forest 1500-2100 m; Whit- more 1975, pp. 199-213) of Malaya. It appears from published data that they also occur at high elevations in other localities within Malesia and, in the case of those occurring outside of Malesia, at high latitudes, i.e. Japan, Taiwan, Sikkim etc.
