The nomenclatural history, morphology, ecology and taxonomy of the subgenus is reviewed and its relationship to other subgenera discussed. Keys, distribution maps and synonymies for each taxon are provided. Five species are recognized of which one,Cybianthus deltatus, is described as new, illustrated and discussed. One new combination,Cybianthus fulvopulverulentus subsp.magnoliifolius (Mez) Pipoly, is made.Cybianthus spicatus is a polymorphic ochlospecies, with four ecotypic growth forms. Five binomials are lectotypified.
