This book - inspired by the ILO World Employment Conference in 1976 - suggests new criteria for establishing socially oriented technology policies in the developing countries and demonstrates how technology can be directly related to the fundamental objective of satisfying basic human needs. In this new edition account is taken of the deliberations of the 1979 United Nations Conference on Science and Technology for Development, and the list of institutions dealing with appropriate technology has been updated.
