L IKE many other states, Massachusetts is affected by wind _ erosion and sand dune formation in parts of its area. Massachusetts was perhaps the first state in this country to institute control methods period. As far back as 1714 and particularly in 1826, extensive reclamation of sand areas on the Province Land was attempted, for Provincetown, the largest city on Cape Cod was in danger of being swept into the sea.
