Esta investigación se realizó con 190 estudiantes de primer semestre que cursaron la materia de matemáticas I, en el programa académico de Administración de Empresas de la Universidad Francisco de Paula Santander (UFPS). A través de una encuesta sociodemográfica se identificaron algunas características de la población, determinando el pensamiento formal por medio del Test of Logical Thinking (TOLT) de Tobin y Capié. Por medio de estadísticos descriptivos que brindan información acerca del pensamiento de acuerdo a los esquemas de razonamiento presentes en los estudiantes. Los resultados obtenidos indican que entre los estudiantes predomina el pensamiento concreto
