Migración y nuevas formas de sindicalismo en los países del norte global

Abstract

Luego del giro neoliberal en Estados Unidos y Europa, el sindicalismo ha perdido mucha fuerza. Dos factores han sido importantes para ello: 1) la desindustrialización de estas economías generó grandes pérdidas de empleos en los sectores donde el sindicalismo tenía mayor influencia. 2) Por mucho tiempo la mayoría de los sindicatos rechazaron afiliar trabajadores migrantes del sur global, mermando su capacidad de rearticulación ante el nuevo panorama económico.La situación ha cambiado. Los grandes sindicatos han tenido que aceptar el ingreso de migrantes y generar una reconfiguración del sindicalismo al mismo tiempo que un espacio de organización y lucha para los migrantes. Este artículo aborda el modelo de “sindicalismo social” y los Worker Centers (centros de trabajadores) y cómo éstos han influido en las subjetividades políticas de los trabajadores migrantes y viceversa.
