This report describes the results of a study to determine control system design features and to propose innovative conceptual approaches necessary to increase the productivity of operation and maintenance personnel required to operate a solar thermal central receiver power plant. This study utilized experience gained at the 10 MWe Solar Thermal Central Receiver Pilot Plant located near Barstow, California. The plant, called Solar One, is a cooperative activity between the Department of Energy and the Associates: Southern California Edison, the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, and the California Energy Commission. 13 figs., 5 tabs.
