Primary objective of this article is to critically evaluate the orientalists’ perception of Prophet Muhammed in their writing. Much has been written about Prophet Muhammed in many languages. No prophet was exposed to severe criticism as Prophet Muhammed did. Since his prophethood, Prophet Muhammad encountered all kinds of antagonism and resettlements from his opponents. Wrong perceptions and misinformation are still being deliberately spread about his life and mission. Many people have wrongly perceived him and his mission. It would be a daunting task to deconstruct all those wrong perceptions and yet, an attempt has been made in this paper to clear some of those misconceptions. Much research has been done on Islam and Muslim by orientalists. Although they claim that they have done objective research works about Islam and Muslims, much of their research are subjective according to many Muslim academics. In this short paper, we evaluate some of their intellectual research works on Prophet Muhammed. This paper is divided into six parts. The first part gives a brief definition to the concept of orientalism. The second part briefly discusses the biographical account of the Prophet Muhammed. The third part critically analyses the social context of the Arabian Peninsula in 6th century. The fourth part deals with the concept of divine revelation. The fifth part examines some statements and critiques of oriental scholars on Prophet Muhammed. The six part briefly summaries the finding of this paper. With this prelude about orientalism and its motive, let us examine how the biography of Prophet Muhammed is presented in their studies.
