Employee engagement has emerged over the past number of years to be a very popular topic. During this time, the concept has been shown to have statistically significant relationships with many organizationally desirable outcomes. The idea of community has also been long connected with many of the same outcomes. Despite the overlapping conceptual space and common consequences, very little theory has been developed connecting the two concepts in the fields of management or organizational behaviour. This paper identifies the commonalities and uses the extant scholarship to begin modelling the linkages between employee engagement and sense of community. In doing so, a model emerges indicating that many of the antecedents and consequences of employee engagement may require reexamination through the lens of community.
