Antecedents of Non-Financial Parameters of Corporate Performance on Financial Performance

Abstract

Ethical corporate identity has become an important aspect of the global nature of the business. Since the triple bottom line is based on people, planet and profit, it has gradually become imperative in companies of the 21st century. Companies will gradually take into account a greater consideration of all stakeholders rather than only shareholders. Therefore, it is necessary to measure the social and environmental performance of a company along with financial performance including their impact on society. This study explores the extent to which the companies apply and report some elements of corporate governance, corporate social responsibility, sustainability and how this may influence corporate financial performance. It was found that companies which are high on self-developed measure of ethical score are also high on financial performance. Tobin Q, ROS, ROCE and ROE were significantly ranked better for high ethical companies as compared to companies with low ethical score.
