This paper addresses the application of compromise programming to environmental issues. A particular power plant should be build, so as to maximize the social benefit bearing in mind not only the immediate, but also far-reaching consequences. This implies achieving the so-called sustainable development which provides actual prosperity without taking away from next generations. The algorithm of compromise programming as well as its suitability for a given problem are thoroughly analyzed.
