Multigenerational Living Arrangements Among Migrants

Abstract

Das Zusammenleben mehrerer Generationen einer Familie in einem Haushalt ist in Deutschland bei Migranten signifikant weiter verbreitet als bei der einheimischen Bevolkerung. Migranten konnten diese Haushaltsform wahlen, um wirtschaftliche Einschrankungen zu kompensieren. Diese Hypothese wird getestet, indem die wirtschaftlichen Verhaltnisse in Mehrgenerationenhausern analysiert werden. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass in Mehrgenerationenhaushalten von Migranten signifikant mehr Haushaltsmitglieder zum Haushaltseinkommen beitragen als in vergleichbaren einheimischen Haushalten - insbesondere in Haushalten unter der Armutsgefahrdungsgrenze. Daruber hinaus gehoren Migrantenkinder in Mehrgenerationenhauser signifikant seltener zur Erwerbsbevolkerung als einheimische Kinder oder Migrantenkinder in anderen Haushaltsformen. Somit liefert diese Studie Hinweise darauf, dass bei Migranten eine Korrelation zwischen den wirtschaftlichen Verhaltnissen und der Wohnform besteht.
