Gender Equality and Management: Concepts, Constructs and the Invisible Barrier in the Ghanaian Society

Abstract

This is a contribution to a discussion on the broad topic, “Achieving the Millennium Development Goals through Gender Equity and Good Governance.” Examining and critically looking at how gender equality is understood by people and how some women are sometimes sidelined directly and indirectly, the researcher decided to write on “Gender Equality and Management: Concepts, Constructs and the Invisible Barriers.” This is to look at the concepts and constructs of gender equality. That is, to write on gender roles, identification: transsexual, cross-dressers and intersexual, biological and cultural differences and gender intelligence. Further more, to look at management practices, skills required for management, characteristics of managerial work and effective managers. Finally, the researcher will touch on gender-related challenges in management. That is, look at the hidden barriers and why they exist. In an attempt to help in achieving some of these millennium development goals, the researcher will come out with some ways of breaking some of these barriers.
