
Core Ideas Methods are presented for measuring soil salinity in soil volumes < 200 m3. Focus is given to lab measurements of electrical conductivity and total dissolved solids from soil extracts. Discussion is also given to the use of suction cup extractors, porous matrix/salinity sensors, electrical resistivity, and electromagnetic induction to measure salinity in soil lysimeter columns and small field plots. In this summary, we provide a brief overview of the chapter entitled “Soil Salinity: Electrical Conductivity and Total Dissolved Solids”, recently published in the Methods of Soil Analysis (vol. 2) series.
