Palabras clave : Comunicacion, Medicina deportiva, Entrenador Abstract : Sports Medicine is a branch of medicine that treats sports injuries. Depending on the type of injury suffered by the athlete, the type of sport practiced and his or her level, the injury will have more or less physical and psychological consequences. The objectives are to highlight the importance of the coach in sports injuries, as well as coach’s communication with the physician and the athlete; and to prove that the injury’s psychological effects may help or damage the athlete’s recovery. We use the case of a young middle-level athlete who suffers a fifth metatarsal fracture twice to investigate communication in Sports Medicine based on the interpersonal relationships between physician-patient, patient-coach and coach-physician, trying to uncover fundamental aspects of the ideal communication in the field of sports medicine. We compare the communication between the physician and the patient and the psychological effects of both fractures, and we analyze this information. Finally, we suggest how the situation could be improved for the successful recovery of the athlete. Keywords : Communication, Sports Medicine, Coach doi: http://dx.doi.org/10.20318/recs.2016.3155
