El campo de la Defensa no ha sido ajeno a la sólida relación existente entre España e Iberoamérica, fundada en razones históricas y culturales. En el contexto de una Diplomacia de la Defensa, desde inicios del último decenio del siglo pasado los sucesivos Gobiernos españoles han utilizado al instrumento militar en numerosas iniciativas multilaterales de diferentes características que involucraron a contrapartes iberoamericanas. El presente trabajo describe esas prácticas hasta mediados de la presente década, incluyendo los vaivenes que registró la idea de una Fuerza Iberoamericana de Paz, que nunca logró cristalizarse.
The field of Defense has not been alien to the solid relationship between Spain and Ibero-America, based on historical and cultural reasons. In the context of a Diplomacy of Defense, since the beginning of the last decade of the last century successive Spanish Governments have used the military instrument in numerous multilateral initiatives of different characteristics that involved Iberoamerican counterparts. The present work describes those practices until the middle of the present decade, including the swings that the idea of an Iberoamerican Peace Force, which never managed to crystallize.
