Estructura y composición florística del bosque nuboso de la Isla del Coco

Abstract

<p class="p1">En el Parque Nacional Isla del Coco (Costa Rica) durante el 2012, se establecieron 6 Parcelas Permanentes de Muestreo (PPM) de 2500 m<span class="s1">2 </span>cercanas a los Cerros Yglesias y Pelón (630 y 560 msnm, respectivamente) con el de caracterizar la estructura y composición florística de este bosque; donde por las condiciones de humedad y nubosidad favorecen un tipo de asociación vegetal considerada como el bosque nuboso a más baja altitud del mundo, entre 300 y 630 msnm. Se midieron todos los individuos con dap&gt; 5 cm, además de su altura total, posición de copa, forma de copa y lianas. </p><p class="p1">Se encontraron 16 especies botánicas, seis de éstas, endémicas. La diversidad de especies respecto a la estructura vertical, disminuye de 14 en el dosel inferior, a 5 en el dosel superior. <em>Sacoglottis holdridgei</em>, es la única especie con distribución vertical y horizontal continua. La abundancia es de 1653±362 árboles/ ha; con alta densidad de <em>Cyathea alfonsiana </em>(1202 árboles/ha) en la primera categoría diamétrica. El área basal es de 21,53±2.01 m<span class="s1">2</span>/ha, 23% corresponden a <em>C. alfonsiana</em>, y 62,5% a <em>S. holdridgei</em>. Tanto los índices de valor de importancia de algunas especies, como los índices de diversidad presentan diferencias significativas respecto a la altitud. </p><p class="p1">El comportamiento de las especies, la altitud, y las condiciones climáticas del sitio, permiten valorar la dinámica estructural y la composición de estas poblaciones como un indicador de los efectos del cambio climático. </p>
