Abstract

The purpose of the study is to report evidence of construct validity and reliability of a new self-report instrument to measure mindfulness and equanimity in a Spanish-speaking population. A list of 26 original items was examined by 17 experts from Spain and Latin America and the corresponding modifications were made on the basis of their comments. The final list of 21 items was administered to a sample of 746 university students from Mexico and Peru. Their responses were factorily analyzed based on the unweighted least squares (MCP) method with prominent rotations. Two factors called mindless and mindful were identified with factorial loads ranging between .36 and .65. Reliability coefficients were .78 for the first factor and .82 for the second factor. Interfactorial correlation was -.51. The results indicate evidence of convergent and discriminant validity.
