Measuring system of a device for diffusible hydrogen determination

Abstract

Accurately measuring hydrogen levels in steel remains a significant challenge in the realm of applied science. Despite ongoing research on this topic over the past two decades, little progress has been made in fundamental areas due to the absence of a dependable method for measuring hydrogen in steel. The small size and atomic structure of hydrogen atoms present difficulties in utilizing established measurement techniques for such a simple element. Additionally, the size of hydrogen atoms poses challenges for sealing hydrogen measurement systems, rendering most apparatuses susceptible to leakage. Moreover, the need to measure minuscule quantities of hydrogen coupled with the high degree of statistical variability in the measured quantities has contributed to the uncertainty of the measured hydrogen levels. In recent years, various studies and research have been conducted on the precise determination and measurement of hydrogen levels, particularly in areas such as the use of hydrogen as a vehicle fuel. This study focuses on the measurement techniques of diffusible hydrogen and examines the advantages and limitations of these methods by analyzing various sources.
