Интертекстуальность в видеоиграÑ

Abstract

The subject of the graduate qualification work is “Intertextuality in video games”. This work is devoted to studying intertextual inclusions used in video games, their types, functions, and the roles that they perform. The research set the following goals: 1. Analysis of the existing concepts of intertextuality.. 2. The study of functioning intertextual inclusions. 3. Contemplation of video games as an object of linguistic research. 4. Identification of features and types of implemented intertextuality in modern American role-playing video games and their study illustrated by the series of Bioshock, TES, Fallout and Dragon age. The work was fulfilled on the material of fantasy, steampunk, post- apocalypse and anti-utopia video games. The research is based on textbooks, scientific articles, an English dictionary of definitions, quotes from world-famous books and movies, as well as digital manuals from the video games themselves. Intertextual inclusions and their functions were identified that are specific to the above-mentioned video games. The possibility of improving the quality of a video game through the use of intertextuality, its advantages and reasons for appearing in final products was considered. As a result of the analysis, it became apparent that the use of such inclusions positively affects the impression of the game, increases its replay value, facilitates narration, and also involves players deeper in the process of exploring the world and characters, which only increases game sales, chances of positive reviews and audience expansion.
