Las mascaradas azogueñas, una aproximación desde la Antropología Cultural

Abstract

El estudio sobre las mascaradas en Azogues, desde la antropología cultural, analiza este fenómeno como un ritual de crítica social, expresión cultural y renovación simbólica en un contexto de sincretismo religioso. El objetivo es comprender la función del festival en la identidad local y la cohesión comunitaria. Mediante una metodología etnográfica y análisis documental, se examinan las festividades entre el 28 de diciembre y el 6 de enero, donde se invierten roles sociales y se emplean máscaras para la sátira y la parodia. Los resultados evidencian que las mascaradas han sido un espacio de expresión popular a través de siete ediciones ejecutadas por la Universidad Católica de Cuenca, que ha garantizado su continuidad, adaptándose a la modernidad sin perder su esencia crítica y festiva. Finalmente, se espera adherir a los actores de la ciudad y la provincia para alcanzar una mayor difusión en ediciones futuras.
