The study of dialectology in Hispanic America has long been linked to the creation of linguistic atlases, even though the earliest projects of this kind faced numerous setbacks. By the 1980s, the Caro and Cuervo Institute completed the editing and publication of the Linguistic and Ethnographic Atlas of Colombia (ALEC) (Caro and Cuervo Institute, 1983), the first fully finished work of its type in the region. This atlas has facilitated the development of multiple studies on Spanish in Colombia and the Americas, standing out as a key tool for continental dialectology. Nevertheless, despite its relevance, the ALEC is often criticized for excluding certain geographic areas, such as the eastern regions, the south, and the Caribbean islands of Colombia. More than four decades after its publication, the Spanish spoken in these regions remains largely unknown. This dissertation describes the morphosyntax of the Spanish spoken in the natural region of the Orinoquía, located in the eastern part of the country, using socio-dialectological methods. To this end, data were collected both in the field and online, with the aim of assembling a corpus for the analysis of this variety. This corpus brings together unpublished and highly valuable material with multiple potential applications and, within the framework of this research, made it possible to examine an inventory of morphosyntactic features commonly associated with coastal and Andean varieties to determine their characteristics and distribution in the territory under study. Through this investigation, the speech of the Orinoquía region is incorporated into the broader discussion on the varieties of Colombian Spanish, contributing to filling the linguistic knowledge gap that has persisted in Hispanic studies for nearly half a century.
