A Study on the Grammaticality Judgement Competence and Individual Differences for Advanced Korean Learners

Abstract

The purpose of thisstudy is to examine the relationships between grammatical judgement competenceand individual difference variables. For data collection, this study had 101 Koreanlearners perform Mini-TOPIK, GJT, PSTM, SRTT, PAT, and LCP. Mini-TOPIKwas developed to measure proficiency, GJT was used to measure grammaticalityjudgment competence and PSTM, SRTT, PAT and LCP were used to measureindividual difference variables. The main findings include: (i) The difficult featureswith low accuracy rates were adverbial particles, the auxiliary particle ‘un/nun’, theretrospective prefinal ending ‘-de-’, the nominalizing ending, the retrospectiveadnominal ‘-deon’, the conjunctive ending ‘-aseo/eoseo’ and ‘-nerago’, andquotation expressions. (ii) The influence of individual difference variables varieddepending on individual grammatical items.
