HVDC Grid Evolvement and Related Grid Transformation in Europe

Abstract

The panel session will primarily focus on the impact of the energy revolution in Europe on the transmission grid, with a particular emphasis on the need for HVDC technology. It will delve into the challenges and opportunities presented by the interconnection of large-scale wind power in the north and solar power production in the south. The session will also explore the possibility of implementing a new network layer known as the overlay grid, which would leverage HVDC technology. Moreover, the panelists will provide an overview of ongoing and recently completed projects in this field, shedding light on their successes and lessons learned.
