This chapter gives an overview of the tradition of Swedish working-class literature, which incorporates an analysis of how this literature has been viewed in different ways in different contexts and at different times. This opens up for a reconstruction of Swedish working-class literature as an ever-changing phenomenon existing within a vast field of potentialities and possibilities, rather than as an essentialist or reified category. This, in turn, makes possible the emergence of a richer picture of Swedish working-class literature, at the same time as historical and theoretical questions relevant for the study of the phenomenon of working-class literature in general are brought to the fore.
