Tritoma subbasalis (Reitter, 1896) is known in Poland from a few localities in the northern and southeastern regions. Nine new Polish localities are provided. Tritoma subbasalis as a saproxylic beetle can survive only in old forests rich in deadwood, growing in fertile, humid stands. It develops on fungi infesting both living trees and deadwood. Host fungi belong to the genera Daedaleopsis J. Schrot., Trametes Fr., Lenzites Fr., and Inonotus P. Karst. Tritoma subbasalis is an indicator of quasi-natural forests, and may facilitate the recognition of such forest complexes in Poland.
