When violence engulfs everything, laughing is the only way out. In North Mexico, where violence related to drug trafficking happens on a daily basis, writers use humour to hide this hideous and unspeakable reality. Some of them draw upon the light-hearted jest, whilst others reflect upon problems related to violence, drug trafficking and corruption and research these topics to a greater depth. In this paper, some examples of novels that are considered “drug dealing literature” (narcoliteratura) are given, where humour is the key element.
