Forty participants watched a 32 minute lesson and and 6 min review in the fMRI scanner. Each lesson and review included slides that covered an introduction to fMRI and the BOLD response. Each group of subjects were shown a lesson (20 subjects) or a scrambled version of the lecture (20 subjects). The teacher (author MN) taught five lessons and review sessions across three different scanner sessions (lesson length: mean = 32:20 min, range = 31.29-34:29 min; review length: mean = 5.58 min, range=5:54-6:13 min). Following both the lesson and review, participants completed two 25-question multiple choice quizzes (pre- and post-test quiz) to assess learning.
