La crisi del XIV secolo

Abstract

Il lavoro si presenta diviso in due parti distinte. Nella prima si rievoca l’antica e oggi perenta polemica storiografica sulla transizione dal feudalesimo al capitalismo, con al centro la «crisi » del XIV secolo : non si vuole riesumare un tema ormai privo d’interesse, ma cercare di ricostruire il clima intellettuale dell’epoca e comprendere le ragioni del fallimento di un progetto di ricerca. Nella seconda vengono seguiti alcuni dei percorsi lungo i quali la crisi attraversata dalla città di Roma nel corso del XIV secolo si è riverberata sull’articolata composizione della sua nobiltà. Nella lotta « baroni » – « popolo », da un lato particolare attenzione è stata riservata alla dialettica tra assetti istituzionali e dinamiche sociali ; dall’altro i motivi dl cambiamento negli assetti di potere sono stati ricercati nell’evoluzione delle strutture agrarie del territorio della Roma trecentesca.
