La celebrazione aristocratica nello Stato della Chiesa

Abstract

Presso l'aristocrazia dell'Italia comunale, si diffusero oggetti, comportamenti e rituali volti al festeggiamento, alla esaltazione e alla glorificazione di persone ο dell'intero gruppo nobiliare e dei suoi valori fondamentali e identificativi. D'indiscutibile rilievo pur se solo in parte riconducibili alla sfera della propaganda, queste celebrazioni vengono analizzate con particolare riferimento alle regioni sottoposte al dominio temporale dei papi. In queste aree, già nella prima metà del Duecento l'abbandono di una concezione feudale dello Stato privò le aristocrazie di un solido ancoraggio esterno per le manifestazioni celebrative ed ostentatorie. Discostandosi dalle pratiche attestate nei grandi stati monarchici, la celebrazione aristocratica assunse allora caratteri diffusi in tutta l'Italia comunale. Fu una vasta congerie di ostentazioni e di rituali, finora poco studiata, che viene qui indagata soprattutto in connessione alla morte, all'esercizio di magistrature pubbliche e all'abbigliamento.
