Abstract

L’articolo esamina il rapporto tra le proposte di riforma della poesia italiana di Ludovico Antonio Muratori e Gianvincenzo Gravina, e la trattatistica civile nel primo Settecento, con particolare riferimento al trattato La vita civile di Paolo Mattia Doria (1709). Partendo dall’imprescindibile dimensione etica che informa l’opera dei tre autori, il contributo intende mettere in luce da una prospettiva inedita quanto i progetti di riforma della poesia italiana trovino spazio anche all’interno della Vita civile. Lo scopo di queste pagine è di dimostrare infatti l’importanza assunta nel trattato di Doria soprattutto dalla tragedia e dalla commedia, considerate, seppure da una diversa angolazione, come mezzi più atti all’edificazione etica dell’uomo e del principe; e di verificare quindi quanto tali considerazioni siano da interpretare, a partire anche dal lascito di Gregorio Caloprese, nella direzione tracciata da Gravina e Muratori in opere come Della perfetta poesia italiana (1706) e Della ragion poetica (1708).
