Práctica y ceremonial de la comunicación escrita entre el rey y las ciudades castellanas en la baja edad media

Abstract

El ejercicio de la soberanía regia en la Castilla bajomedieval tiene su expresión en las relaciones de la Corona con las ciudades a través de un sistema de comunicación escrita regulada y normativizada a través de formularios que, con ligeras variantes, se enviaron a todas las ciudades y villas del realengo con los mensajes del rey. A su vez, dicho sistema se instrumentalizó como medio de legitimación y propaganda política a través de agentes colaboradores de la Corona como los oficiales de la Corte, la justicia y el derecho y las escribanías urbanas. Todo ello dentro de una ritualización cargada de gestos, palabras y símbolos de tipo feudal, como las ceremonias taumatúrgicas de recepción de leyes regias y su acatamiento por las ciudades, prácticas que el Estado bajomedieval utilizó en aras de su propio fortalecimiento.

El protocolo de recepción de los documentos regios en las ciudades, la presentación y notificación oficial de los mismos y el papel de los escribanos locales, el proceso de autentificación documental, el ceremonial documental, ritos de acatamiento y obediencia: la fórmula legal "obedézcase pero no se cumpla" y el ritual taumatúrgico de tocar, besar y elevar los documentos (el posacabezas) y el proceso administrativo de las escribanías mayores urbanas.
