Ravenna : tabellioni e notai

Ravenna : tabellioni e notai

Abstract

We have a vaste knowdledge about the Ravenna document: nevertheless certain topics seem to rarely visited by scholars. In particular we are without an overall picture of the graphic culture regarding tabelliones of the city and notarii of the Church. This outline would help us to shed light not only on report magistri-discipuli but also on the relationship between these two categories of writers, that a long historical tradition of considering all independent until the twelfth century. The survey here presented offers some examples where precisely the study of the scriptures aggregates in a single family group tabelliones adopting a chancery-cursive and (not coincidentally) acting in close contact with the environment of the archbishop and conducting administrative officia; the survey also shows the lability of the border that would separate the notarii of the archbishop from 'craft' of tabellio, with certainty in the eleventh century but most probably from the Early Middle Ages.
