Lo studio mette a raffronto le tre stampe di Rosso Malpelo sorvegliate dall'autore con quella abusiva (la seconda). I risultati del raffronto mostrano che l'edizione abusiva esercitò un certo influsso nell'ultima revisione (1897) della novella compiuta da Giovanni Verga
