This article offers an introduction to contemporary theology of redemption. With this aim it examines the main issues and areas of interest lately discussed in soteriological reflection. The first section, devoted to biblical soteriology, tries to delineate the figure of Jesus Savior as it emerges in recent approaches. The second section deals with theological content: issues and debates that have focused the attention of theologians are scrutinized, with especial attention to the paschal mystery, the culmination of the saving work of Christ. The author appreciates the recent path of soteriology and gives some suggestions for a better incorporation of the new instances into the common soteriological doctrine.
