Abstract

Il saggio si occupa del "Trattato delle giurisdizioni del Friuli" di Paolo Sarpi, opera in cui si rivela l'acume politico dell'autore e come egli utilizzi a favore della politica veneziana la propria capacità di argomentare sottilmente. Sarpi oscilla volutamente tra sarcasmo e denuncia e con grande modernità pone in luce i comportamenti degli uomini di chiesa; per lui il potere ecclesiastico non deve ingerirsi nelle questioni temporali, poiché riguardo alla politica gli ecclesiastici non differiscono da qualsiasi altro uomo e sono quindi sottoposti alle leggi come tutti; del resto la Chiesa delle origini si manteneva al di fuori della politica.
