Abstract

L'articolo analizza la centralità dei media nel discorso religioso contemporaneo. Si mette in luce come la diffusione delle nuove tecnologie (prima la televisione e poi Internet) con cui i movimenti religiosi hanno preso a comunicare negli ultimi decenni, costringano a mutare il paradigma tradizionale di interpretazione della relazione fra media e esperienza religiosa. E come l'innovazione dei linguaggi virtuali sfumi la linea di separazione fra privato e pubblico, mettendo in crisi i paradigmi interpretativi legati alla teoria dell'inevitabilità dei processi di secolarizzazione. Le tradizioni religiose sono continuamente rinegoziate, sia al momento della creazione del prodotto mediatico sia al momento della sua fruizione, che tende sempre più a caratterizzarsi come dinamica e interattiva. L'ego è posto al centro del discorso soteriologico, un io reso progressivamente 'insaziabile' di immaginari ed emozioni 'del sacro', e in connessione con il suo interagire nel mondo di Internet vengono a costruirsi delle comunità religiose 'virtuali', le cosiddette On-line religions, in cui la 'tradizione' è veicolata non più da un Canone, ma da ipertesti in continua rielaborazione, gestiti non dalla sapienza degli anziani ma dall'azzardo spirituale e dalla conoscenza tecnologica dei più giovani.
