This note explores some of the historical events related to bulls, bullfights, and bullfighters from the fiesta fictionalized in The Sun Also Rises . Specifically, it examines the source of inspiration for the goring of Vicente Gironés as described in the novel and the contradictory references to the bull killed by Pedro Romero. The note includes a copy of Cayetano Ordóñez’s contract for the bullfights of the Sanfermines in 1925 as well as a copy of the payments made to the bullfighters who fought that year in Pamplona.
