Numancia : "nuestra historia"

Abstract

La forma teatral de Numancia difiere de la de todas lasotras obras dramáticas del Siglo de Oro en varios aspectos: la distribución de jornadas (o actos); la extraña simetría de entradas y salidas de los personajes, de la versificación, de las figuras alegóricas y del simbolismo de subidas y caídas; la presentación de oraciones extensas y hortatorias; la introducción del conflicto político contemporáneo entre España y el Vaticano; y la comparación constante del pueblo pagano y supersticioso de los numantinos con el pueblo católico y ortodoxo de los españoles del siglo XVI. Este ensayo procura explicar que estas anomalias se deben principalmente a que Numancia , aunque escrita en forma "teatral," tiene fines netamente pertenecientes a la "historia," y más concretamente en la mente de Cervantes, a "nuestra historia."
